WELCOME TO

The Executive Edge

Education for Teens & Kids

Areas of Focus

Self-Introspection

&

Self-Regulation

When students are able to understand their inner thoughts and control their emotions and behaviour, they learn to excel during periods of high stress while being more mindful in the present moment.

Communication

&

Relationships

By harnessing communication and relationship-building strategies, students will become greater team leaders and collaborators on group projects and assignments.

Organization

&

Planning

Through intentional planning and time blocking, students procrastinate less and learn the discipline necessary for academic success, decreased stress, and improved executive functioning.

Teaching the next generation to have “common sense”.

Think like an executive (not an employee) with Executive Functions training.

Thinking like an executive ultimately means, what we used to call, common sense and centres around the ability to discern and make judgment calls, opposed to being told what to do.

Executive Functions are a set of cognitive processes that are necessary for the ability to select and successfully monitoring behaviours that facilitate the attainment of chosen goals.

Executive Functions

Executive functioning skills facilitate the behaviours required to plan and achieve goals. The fundamental skills related to executive functions include:

  • Attentional control (time management, planning & organization)
  • Cognitive inhibition
  • Inhibitory control (emotional regulation, self-control & self-monitoring)
  • Working memory
  • Cognitive flexibility

From Harvard Business Review

An effective executive does not need to be a leader in the sense that the term is now most commonly used.

Harry Truman did not have one ounce of charisma, for example, yet he was among the most effective chief executives in U.S. history.

Similarly, some of the best business and nonprofit CEOs I’ve worked with over a 65-year consulting career were not stereotypical leaders. They were all over the map in terms of their personalities, attitudes, values, strengths, and weaknesses. They ranged from extroverted to nearly reclusive, from easy-going to controlling, and from generous to parsimonious.

What made them all effective is that they followed the same eight practices:

  1. They asked, “What needs to be done?”
  2. They asked, “What is right for the enterprise?”
  3. They developed action plans.
  4. They took responsibility for decisions.
  5. They took responsibility for communicating.
  6. They were focused on opportunities rather than problems.
  7. They ran productive meetings.
  8. They thought and said “we” rather than “I.”

The first two practices gave them the knowledge they needed. The next four helped them convert this knowledge into effective action. The last two ensured that the whole organization felt responsible and accountable.
